Who am I?

My name is Julian Simpson and I am a London-based writer and director who has been working in film, TV and audio for the past 25 years (and counting). I’ve worked on Spooks, New Tricks and Doctor Who etc. and I created the Lovecraft Investigations, the Aldrich Kemp audio series and the Pleasant Green Universe. I run a writer-led company called Storypunk and most of my current work is across TV and film in the US.

What’s the deal here?

Development Hell is my musings on everything from writing software to story ideas - basically anything that’s of interest to me as a working writer. Most of that stuff is free for a few weeks before it slides behind the paywall.

Paid subscribers also get access the The Development Hell Writing Course, which I started recently and which will be covering everything from ideas and pitching, through software and workflows, into writing drafts, dialogue tips and action sequences. The course is intended to be a mix of written pieces and audio interviews with industry people.

Paid subscribers also get access to the archive and to comments and the community here, which seems to be growing pretty fast.
